2nd trifold model in development reportedly halted

The development of the second trifold smartphone model that is supposed to arrive in the market was reportedly stopped.

The industry welcomed the first trifold phone, thanks to the Huawei Mate XT. The arrival of the said model prompted other brands to start working on their own trifold creations. According to earlier reports, Xiaomi, Honor, Tecno, and Oppo are now preparing their own trifold devices, and even Huawei is allegedly already working on Mate XT’s successor.

However, reputable Digital Chat Station claimed that “the development of the second triple-folding mobile phone in the industry has been suspended.” The account did not specify the brand that made the move, but it could be one of the companies mentioned above. To recall, earlier leaks claimed that Honor is the second brand that could introduce the next trifold. Honor CEO Zhao Ming somehow affirmed this, saying that the company “has already laid out” its trifold patent layout. Meanwhile, Xiaomi is reportedly working on two trifolds, which could debut this year and in 2026.

Sadly, DCS shared that the foldable industry in China is currently “saturated” and that its market is not huge enough to encourage competition. On a positive note, the tipster claimed that the company that canceled its trifold phone will continue introducing its next book-style foldable and flip phone models in 2025.
