With this guide we are going to teach you how to install MIUI updates manually.

There are two types of ROM update files, one is Recovery ROM other one is Fastboot ROM, as their name implies Recovery ROMs are installed via recovery while Fastboot ROMs are installed from fastboot interface using a computer. This guide talks about using Recovery ROMs to update a device.

1. Updating MIUI manually using built-in updater app

All Xiaomi phones come with MIUI’s built-in updater app and with this app we can either wait for the updates to arrive to our phone or we can manually apply updates.

First of all, we need to download an update package to our phone. To do this you can use our MIUI Downloader app

Here’s how you download the package;

manually apply updates.
Updating MIUI manually using built-in updater app

Open the app, choose your device, choose the stable ROM, and then choose the region you want to download. And after that download the OTA package. You can check the image above if you didn’t understand.

After downloading update package;

Go to Settings > My Device > MIUI version.

Press several times on MIUI logo until “additional features are on” text comes up.

Tap on hamburger menu.

Now tap on “Choose update package” option.

Select the package you downloaded.

It will ask you to confirm to install it. Tap update. It should start the process.

What is MIUI Downloader?

What is Surge P1? Xiaomi’s answer to fast charging. https://xiaomiui.net/what-is-surge-p1-1940/ Fri, 24 Dec 2021 18:16:45 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=1940 Days before Xiaomi 12 Series’ launch, Xiaomi continues to reveal more about their new flagship lineup.

From the release of first generation of fast charging by Xiaomi in 2019, to the extreme fast charging system on MIX 4, Wired charging speeds increased by 7.5 times and the wireless charging speeds has increased by 12 times. Now with current devices on the market, included chargers can fully charge the phones in 15 minutes. With this increase of charging speeds and decrease of charging time, smartphone user’s habit of charging overnight changed to charging on the fly.

In order to achieve high speeds of charging, Xiaomi set fast charging as an important strategic direction in 2019. Xiaomi established four different Research and Development centers, In three years Xioami applied for more than 800 patents and released millions of devices equipped with fast charging systems.

Surge P1
Surge P1 chip

120W single cell solution to improve battery life, lightness and thinness

Smartphones with wired charging speeds up to 120W use dual-cell system without exception. The price of high speed charging is to reduce the utilization of the internal space of the phone. The dual-cell battery when compared to single cell battery, capacity is about %3 to%4 lower than single cell, even more than that dual-cell batteries need another chip for charging and because of this efficiency will result in a waste of %3 to %4 of power. Single-cell battery can fix these problems but it faces a huge challenge to increase charging power above 100W.

Goal of the Xiaomi is to achieve best balance between battery life and charging performance and to achieve single-cell 120W wired fast charging.

Single-cell and Dual-cell configurations

Surge P1 and the 120W single-cell fast charging

In the past single-cell fast charging solutions, to convert 20V voltage input to the device into a 5V voltage, a series of parallel circuit of 5 different charge pumps is required. Because of this the curcuit produceses lots of heat, it is impossible to charge at full power for a long time and it is even more diffucult to achieve 120W fast charging, which is unacceptable for Xiaomi.

To redesign the entire charging architecture, it is necessary to redefine the function of the fast charging chip. The core of Xiaomi’s 120W charging is two self-developed smart charging chips; known as Surge P1. Surge P1 takes over the complex structure of the traditional 5 charge pump and convert the high-voltage power input to the mobile phone into a large current that can be directly charged to the battery more efficiently.

As the industry’s first discrete charging chip, Surge P1 has an ultra-hight efficient architecture. “The efficiency of the resonant topology is as high as 97.5%, the efficiency of the non-resonant topology is 96.8%, and the heat loss is reduced by 30%.”

Surge P1 undertakes a lot of conversion work: traditional charge pump voltage converters only need two working modes (transformation, pass-through), while Surge P1 needs to support 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1 conversion modes, and all modes need to support dual conduction, which means a total of 15 permutations and combinations of mode switching control, 7 times more than traditional charge pump voltage converters. The 1:1 mode makes the screen on charging more efficient, the 2:1 mode is compatible with more chargers and the 4:1 is needed for 120W charging. Reverse 1:4 and 1:2 modes support high-power reverse charging.

4:1 charging chip with the highest charging efficiency and the most difficult design

At the same time, Surge P1 is also the 4:1 charging chip with the highest charging efficiency from Xiaomi, which can achieve ultra-high power density of 0.83W/mm²,  LDMOS also reaches the industry-leading ultra-low 1.18mΩmm² RSP. The Surge P1 chip needs three different FLY capacitors with different voltage resistance. each capacitor needs an independent short circuit protection circuit and each operating mode needs to strictly control the precharge voltage, the number of power tubes is close to two traditional charge pumps, and because of the increase in topology design and functional complexity, each Surge P1 needs to pass more than 2500 tests before leaving the factory, which is much higher than the traditional charge pumps.

Conclusion

In the end, with Surge P1 chip‘s help, Xiaomi is able to simplify the charging circuit and at the same time the ultra-high efficiency of Surge P1 means that heat generation will be less and the full power charging can continue for a longer time.

The upcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro is the first smartphone from Xiaomi to be equipped with Surge P1. It supports 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

In the fast charging industry, Xiaomi is ahead of other manufacturers, using self-developed charging chips. We will know more about Surge P1 and its capabilities on December 28!

Android 13 features revealed | What will be new in Android 13 https://xiaomiui.net/android-13-features-revealed-1908/ Fri, 24 Dec 2021 14:15:02 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=1908 While Android OEMs are trying to adapt their own OS skin to Android 12, a source with Android 13 access shared screenshots of new Android build called “Tiramisu”.

Popular mobile software development community XDA shared screenshots of Google’s latest Android build called Android 13 “Tiramisu”. XDA is known for leaking early Android builds such as Android 12 and Android 12L (used to known as Android 12.1). They say “We have a high degree of confidence in the veracity of these screenshots.” and we believe them because their older leaks turned out to be correct. But Android 13‘s launch is far away from us, so every feature from these screenshots might not be included in the next version of the android.

Single-line design of lockscreen clock

In Android 12, when there are no notifications the lock screen clock is shown in the two-line format but when notifications show up, the design changes to a single-line format, and returns to two-line format when notifications are cleared. The new setting allows users to use the single-line design constantly, something that users had been mentioning for some time.

App Languages

Android 13 App Locale feature

A new report from Android Police uncovered that Google is dealing with another new feature, codenamed ‘Panlingual’, for Android 13 that will allow users to characterize language settings on a for each application premise. With this new fature users can determine language settings for each app exclusively on their Android device.

Runtime Permission for Notifications

Notification Runtime Permission on Android 13

In Android, every app an user installed has permission to push notifications automatically but with Android 13 user can opt-in on notification services, like they do with location permission and camera permission. This means newly installed apps will request you notification permission if they want to. As the quantity of applications on our telephones expanded, so did the quantity of notifications and the number of applications that send ordinary notifications. With this new feature, Google is trying to decrease notification spam that is coming from apps.

6 Settings you need to change on your Xiaomi smartphone! https://xiaomiui.net/10-settings-you-should-change-on-your-smartphone-1557/ Mon, 20 Dec 2021 17:29:12 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=1557 Xiaomi phones usually come with MIUI out of the box, with MIUI there are a lot of settings to change on your phone so we made a list of 6 things you probably need to change on your smartphone.

1.Turning on Dark Mode

Dark mode settings

Dark mode is best known for its power savings on OLED and AMOLED screen devices but on devices that have LCD displays dark mode does not really have a impact on battery life. But what it impacts is with reducing blue light. Biggest blue light emitter is the sun but our phones emit blue light too. Blue light suppress the secretion of melatonin a hormone important for getting good sleep at night and with dark mode reducing blue light emitting from our display you are more likely to get a good night sleep.

2.Removing Bloatware

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones come a lot with unwanted bloatware apps that can run in the background, eat up your processor and ram and reduce your battery life. Removing these apps probably will increase your phones performance. There are many ways to remove bloatware, like using ADB on your computer, using root, using magisk modules. We think that the one of safest ways to do this process is with Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools and we already written a detailed article about this tool so we suggest you to check it out!

Check out How to debloat your Xiaomi phone with ADB!

3.Disabling ad services

Even after the years is Xiaomi still putting ads on their user interface. We talk about ads in system apps like security, music and file manager apps. Removing all the ads might not be possible but we can still reduce them a lot. Disabling Online content services from the apps will disable every ad from the app. Disabling data collecting apps like “msa” and “getapps” will reduce the ads.

Disabling Online content services;

  • Go into the app you want to remove ads from
  • Enter the settings
  • Find and disable Online content services

Disabling data collecting apps

  • Go into your settings app and enter the Passwords and Security tab
  • Then go into Authorisation and revocation
  • Disable “msa” and “getapps”

4.Changing animation speed

On miui animations are a lot slower than they should be. This makes your device feel slower than it is. We can increase animation speed or even remove the animations with developer settings.

  • Open settings and go into My device tab
  • then enter all specs tab
  • after that find MIUI version and tap couple of times until it enables developer options

  • to enter developer settings you need to go into Additional settings tab
  • now swipe down until you see Window animation scale and Transition animation scale
  • change values to .5x or animation off

5.Wi-Fi assistant

Ever felt that your internet speeds are low on your phone? While playing games your ping is higher than you expect? Then Wi-Fi assistant feature built into MIUI can help you solve these issues.

  • Go into Settings > WLAN > WLAN assistant > Enable Traffic mode > Enable Fast connection

With WLAN Assistant you can even use your mobile data and wi-fi at the same to boost your internet speed but be careful of additional carrier fees

  • WLAN assistant > Use mobile data to boost speed

6.Changing screen refresh rate

These days almost all Xiaomi phones come with high refresh rate screens from 90hz to 144hz! But Xiaomi doesnt enable high refresh rate out of the box and many people use their phone without enabling this feature. Yes we know using high refresh rate decreases your battery life but we think its a fair compromise because high refresh rates make your phone smoother and today 60hz is unpleasent to use.

  • Go into settings > Display > Refresh rate and change it to 90/120/144hz
]]>
How to force enable 90 Hz on MIUI! https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-force-enable-90-hz-on-miui-1618/ Sun, 19 Dec 2021 22:25:23 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=1618 On some Xiaomi phones such as POCO X3 Pro the option for 90 Hz is not available in the settings but we can still force MIUI to enable 90 Hz all the time.

As we said before on some devices 90 Hz is not available in the settings but with “Adaptive refresh rate” screen can turn down refresh rate from 120 Hz to 90 Hz. And with 3rd party apps we can use 90 Hz all the time. You might ask; “why use 90 Hz when i could use 120 Hz?”. Increasing refresh rate to 120 Hz will lower your battery life because screen works harder than 60 Hz. But with 90 Hz it’s kind of like a sweet spot for usage, 90 Hz does not use much power as 120 Hz and its almost smoother as 120 Hz. So here is how to force your display to 90Hz without root!

POCO F3/Redmi K40/Xiaomi 11X’s refrest rate settings, here it can be seen that there is no 90 Hz setting even if it’s partially supported by the OS

Force enabling 90 Hz with 3rd party app

For this process you dont need root you will only need an app that can be found on Google Play Store

Download SetEdit (Settings Database Editor) from google play store

Before starting, be careful any setting you change besides our guide tells you to change might cause issues with your phone and we are not responsible for these issues.

  • Start with enabling Show refresh rate in Developer settings
  • To enable Developer settings;
  • Enter Settings > My device > All specs
  • Tap on MIUI version until it enables Developer settings

  • Enter Additional settings > Developer settings > scroll down until you see “Show refresh rate” option and enable it

With enabling this option you can now see the screens refresh rate on your display.

  • Open SetEdit
  • Scroll down until you see “user_refresh_rate”
  • Tap on it and a pop-up window will show up, hit EDIT VALUE

  • Change value to 90 and save changes

  • Now exit the app and reboot your phone
  • After rebooting enable Show refresh rate option in Developer settings to confirm the screen running on 90 Hz mode
90hz on POCO F3/Redmi K40/Xiaomi 11X
After enabling 90 Hz it can be seen with Show refresh rate option turned on

If this didnt work try changing your refresh rate back to 120 Hz and rebooting. After reboot do the same steps until screen uses 90hz mode.

Congrats! If everything went smoothly and with no issues you can use your phone with 90 Hz.

With POCO F3/Redmi K40/Xiaomi 11X after enabling 90 Hz there might be color inconsistencies appearing on the display. This is to be expected because MIUI’s color calibration is especially bad on this devices.

Redmi K40 and Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G too will be the first devices that will get MIUI 13! https://xiaomiui.net/redmi-k40-and-mi-11-lite-5g-too-will-be-the-first-devices-that-will-get-miui-13-1530/ https://xiaomiui.net/redmi-k40-and-mi-11-lite-5g-too-will-be-the-first-devices-that-will-get-miui-13-1530/#comments Sat, 18 Dec 2021 22:06:37 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=1530 As we approach the release date of MIUI 13, more devices get added to the list of day-0 release list.

With MIUI 13 update Xiaomi will use the same strategy they used with MIUI 11. This means MIUI 13 update will not be a big update compared to MIUI 12 and they will probably release Stable MIUI 13 Builds quickly after the announcements. This does not mean that they won’t release beta builds of the new update. This means they might push stable builds of MIUI 13 on the release date. As we can see from the leaks of MIUI 13 there wont be much difference between MIUI 12.5; only small visual changes, performance improvements, app updates, some new features… So it will be easier for the developer team to fix bugs and release the new update on MIUI for our Xiaomi devices.

How to debloat your Xiaomi phone with ADB https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-debloat-your-xiaomi-phone-1437/ https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-debloat-your-xiaomi-phone-1437/#comments Sat, 18 Dec 2021 12:38:56 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=1437 If you’re like most Xiaomi phone users, your device is probably cluttered with apps that you never use. And, while some of those apps can be uninstalled the regular way, others can only be removed by using ADB commands. In this blog post, I’ll show you how to debloat your Xiaomi phone using ADB. So, if you’re ready to reclaim some storage space on your device, keep reading!  As we know MIUI comes a lot with unwanted bloatware apps and these can slow your phone down, so here is how to uninstall them.

Apps like Facebook, Xiaomi data collecting apps and Google Services can eat up ram in the background even if you dont use them. Uninstalling these unwanted apps can free up space on your storage and can speed up your phone. There are many ways to debloat your device but in this guide we will be only using the Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools method.

You will need a computer for this process.

How to Debloat MIUI

First of all you need to connect your device to your computer in ADB mode. to do this;

  • Go into the Settings > About phone > All specs > And tap on the MIUI version repeatedly to enable Developer Options.

    developer option
This is a screenshot of the screen where you can see the developer option for the visual debloat process.

  • Then go to settings > additional settings > developer settings (at the bottom) > scroll down and enable USB debugging and USB debugging (Security settings)

Now you need your computer to download Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools.
download the app from the Szaki’s github downloads.
you will probably need Oracle Java to run this application.

  • Open the application and connect your phone to your computer with a usb cable
  • Your phone should ask for authorisation click ok to continue
  • Wait for the app to recognise your phone
adb codes
This is the screenshot of the system you need to use in order to do the visual debloat process with adb codes.

Congrats! Now you are ready to delete apps you dont want. but wait you shouldnt delete every app you see here. Some apps are needed for your phone to work and deleting them might cause your phone to not boot into android system( if this happens you need to wipe your phone to get it working again this means losing all your personal data). Tick the apps you want to uninstall and press the uninstall button at the bottom. If you accidently delete a app you didnt want to delete you can reinstall apps with the “reinstaller” tab.

Some Systems and Devices That You Can Debloat

Debloat process can be done on all phones. But for the sake of being a clear example, we have listed some phones below. Let’s have a quick look at them.

  • mi 11 ultra
  • xiaomi mi
  • poco f3
  • xiaomi 12 pro
  • redmi note 10 pro
  • poco x3
  • poco m4 pro
