A company executive shared that the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra will be armed with a more impressive camera system with the help of Leica. Meanwhile, a reputable leaker shared that the model will feature a continuous optical zoom comparable to that of DSLR cameras.
The Chinese giant is expected to update its numbered flagship series this year. According to past reports and leaks, the brand is now preparing the lineup, with some certifications confirming the matter.
Ahead of the brand’s official marketing announcements, CEO Lei Jun started teasing the Ultra variant of the lineup. While no images were shared, the official hinted at an upgraded camera for the Xiaomi model. According to the executive, it will set “a new height of mobile imaging” as the brand’s relationship with Leica deepens.
Recently, the Chinese brand even celebrated the 100th year of Leica in the industry. To do this, the company gifted a special Xiaomi 15 Ultra variant, which was designed specifically with Leica design elements. To recall, the phone’s camera system has a 50MP 1” Sony LYT-900 (23mm, fixed f/1.63) main camera, a 50MP Sony IMX858 (70mm, f/1.8) telephoto, a 50MP 1/2.51” Samsung JN5 (14mm, f/2.2) ultrawide, and a 200MP 1/1.4” Samsung HP9 (100mm, f/2.6) periscope telephoto.
Meanwhile, Digital Chat Station claimed that the phone’s 200MP main camera will work with a special periscope lens. The model is allegedly capable of attaining zooms greater than what the current models offer, such as 3x and 5x. The tipster explained that a CMOS unit will be shared by dual optical zoom components, making the zoom process smoother.
According to earlier reports, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will have a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip, a 6.8″ 2K+ LTPO OLED with 1.2mm bezels, a 16GB/512GB configuration option, a camera system with a SmartSens sensor, a huge battery rated around 7000mAh, HyperOS 3.0, and three colorways (black, white, and silver). The phone is allegedly coming in December.
