Force refresh rate on Android to a set value without root

It has always been a matter of importance to force refresh rate on Android devices to a set value for many smartphone users across the world, and today we will be helping you with the simplest and easiest way to accomplish it.

How do I force refresh rate on Android without root?

Refresh rate is the rate at which the display of a smartphone screen is updated. It is measured in Hertz (Hz). Standards vary from 60 Hz to 144 Hz. Most smartphone screens use a frequency of 60 Hz. Screen refresh rate plays an important role in providing a smooth and responsive user interface on Android devices. By default, Android sets the screen refresh rate to 60Hz which is the native frequency of many displays and it can be set to higher value in settings.

However, simply selecting a higher value does not always guarantee that the screen will always run on it, since OEMs lower it in certain areas of the system in order to preserve battery. While this works fine for most uses, some users want to force refresh rate on Android to a fixed value (e.g., 120Hz) so that they can get the best out of their screen. For quite a while now, users relied on custom ROMs or Magisk modules in order to force refresh rate on Android to a fixed value, however, we will be providing you a much easier and rootless way to do it.

In order to force refresh rate on Android devices to a fixed value:

  • Set your screen refresh rate to the desired value in settings
  • Install SetEdit application from Play Store
  • Select System Table from the dropdown menu on top right if it isn’t selected
  • Scroll down and find the line that says user_refresh_rate
  • Tap on it and hit Edit Value
  • Type 1 and save the changes

Once you’ve completed these steps, your screen will always run on the value you have set. In order to undo this process, simply replace 1 with 0 and that will reverse it.
