Bluetooth-capable hearing aids could soon receive Google Fast Pair Service support.
That’s according to the fast_pair_enable_hearing_aid_pairing code string spotted in the Google Play Services 24.50.32 beta.
To recall, the Google Fast Pair allows quick discovery and pairing of Bluetooth devices with Android, ChromeOS, or WearOS devices without consuming significant power. It now supports various devices and accessories, and it seems Google plans to include accessibility devices on the list soon.
The exact rollout of the GFPS support for hearing aids remains unknown. Yet, it could be just around the corner, especially now that Android 15 already supports hearing aids. Once finally available, this could allow such Bluetooth accessibility devices to pair with Android devices almost instantly.
This will be a huge development in Bluetooth-support hearing aids, which are quite different from regular Bluetooth earphones. That’s because of the Bluetooth Low Energy Audio (LEA) protocol that such accessories use. Once LEA devices like hearing aids are included in GFPS, the Android system could become more accessibility friendly to more users, allowing it to better compete with Apple, which now has a hearing aid feature in the AirPods Pro 2.
