Google I/O 2022 just happened, and we think a Google I/O recap would be worthy, since this year a bunch of stuff was announced, ranging from updates to apps, to a new phone. So, with that out of the way, let’s take a look.
Android 13 Beta officially released
The long-awaited Android 13 Beta has officially been released, after a few months of waiting with the Developer Preview. The beta is currently available for the currently supported devices of Google’s Pixel lineup, and select ASUS, Lenovo, Nokia, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Sharp, Tecno, Vivo, ZTE and Xiaomi devices. The beta will be available most likely as soon as I/O is over, and if you have a supported Xiaomi device, you can follow our previous article to install it.
Android 12L officially “announced” after 3 months
So, this is a bit awkward, but Google finally announced, and well, acknowledged Android 12L in today’s keynote, which is good, however, most custom ROM developers have already had ROMs based on Android 12L for the past few months. But, with the “new” Android 12L update, the system is more optimized for tablets, with updated Google apps and more. So, if you have a tablet, expect the Android 12L update soon.
Google Pixel 6a announced
The long-awaited return of the budged Google phone was weird. In a modern economy, the Pixel 6a is fairly cheap at $449. It features the same Google Tensor chip as it’s flagship predecessors, whether you think that’s a negative or a plus, the Pixel 6 series’ Tensor chipset, but with an IMX363 main camera, and an ultrawide sensor, which is possibly the IMX386. The Pixel 6a also features 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. Unfortunately, there is no 8/256 variant, but this is still decent for the price. The Google Pixel 6a will be available for pre-order starting July 21st.
Google Pixel 7 series leaks confirmed and announced
Google’s upcoming flagship, the Pixel 7 series has had it’s design leaks confirmed, and the device looks exactly as the renders and leakers said they would. The Pixel 7 will feature, most likely an upgraded Tensor chipset, and hopefully a better camera, and it will have an aluminum camera bar, as opposed to the 6 series’ glass camera bar. The Pixel 7 series will be released in Fall of this year, as is the usual release date for Pixel devices.
Pixel Buds Pro announced
The successor to the Pixel Buds, the Pixel Buds Pro has also been announced today. The Pixel Buds Pro will feature a new chipset designed by Google just like Tensor, 11 hours of listening time without extra charging, multi point connectivity, Active Noise Cancelling with Silent Seal and Transparency Mode, Find my Device functionality, hands-free Google Assistant support, and will come in 4 different colours. The pre-order date will be the same as all the other currently available Pixel devices, July 21st.
Pixel Watch announced, will launch with the Pixel 7 series
As mentioned above, Google’s long-awaited intro to the smartwatch market, the Pixel Watch series has finally been announced, and will launch alongside the Pixel 7 series. The Pixel Watch will feature Fitbit integration, sleep tracking, and a heart rate sensor. The Pixel Watch will be officially released on July 21st.
Google returns to the Pixel market with the Pixel Tablet
Google is finally returning to the tablet market, after the success of their Nexus tablets, but we’ve seen a lack of them until 2018’s failed Google Pixel Slate. Though, the Pixel Tablet isn’t gonna be coming anytime soon. The Pixel Tablet will be released in 2023, and will feature an upgraded variant of Google Tensor and POGO pins on the back for accessories, such as keyboards.
