A new report from IDC revealed that Huawei secured 48.6% of China’s foldable smartphone market last year.
This is not entirely surprising as the brand itself aggressively positioned itself as a giant foldable brand in China with its several foldable releases. To recall, the company recently released the Huawei Mate X6 both locally and globally to renew its grip in the foldable division. Meanwhile, Huawei’s Nova Flip made a remarkable entrance after over 45,000 unit sales within its first 72 hours in the market.
In addition to the regular foldable models, Huawei also became the first brand to introduce a trifold device in the market through its Huawei Mate XT. According to IDC, the introduction of Mate XT could actually aid the industry, noting that “the world’s first tri-foldable phone is expected to further drive the foldable market development.”
The releases allowed Huawei to be several steps ahead of its competitors, with other Chinese companies lagging behind. In the IDC report, Honor placed second with a huge gap, attaining only 20.6% of China’s foldable market last year. It is followed by Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo, which secured 11.1%, 7.4%, and 5.3% market shares, respectively.
