Huawei experiencing resurgence in China – Counterpoint

According to a recent report from Counterpoint Research (via CNBC), Huawei is making a resurgence in China. This, however, is bad news for Apple, which saw a 24% iPhone sales drop during the first six weeks of the year.

The research firm shared that the huge decrease in the number of sales of the American company was the result of growing and strong competition in China’s smartphone market. Aside from Huawei, other brands are also dominating China, including Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi, which are all consistently working to release their latest models for 2024.

According to the report, local Chinese brands also experienced a decrease in sales, but their numbers were nothing compared to what the American company received. For instance, Vivo and Xiaomi only experienced 15% and 7% YoY shipment decline, respectively. As for Huawei, the report noted that it has been going the other way. Despite sanctions from the US, the company witnessed success in the release of its Mate 60, which reportedly outshadowed the iPhone 15 in China. Compared to its competitors, the company had a 64% YoY increase in its shipments during the same period, with Honor adding 2% to the figure.

To continuously ensure this growth, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been steadily developing new models to offer in the market. One includes the recently released Huawei Pocket 2 clamshell, which is one of the new challengers in the foldable smartphone market. Aside from that, the company is believed to be working on other models, such as the Huawei P70 and a Nova 12 Lite variant, with recent leaks revealing some of their details.
