Huawei Mate 70 series gets AI eye-tracking feature

A new update introduces the AI eye-tracking feature to the Huawei Mate 70 series models.

The HarmonyOS NEXT 5.0.1.120 update recently rolled out to the Huawei Mate 70 series models. After updating, the devices in the lineup can finally utilize the AI eye-tracking feature to turn pages when using the Huawei Reader app. To recall, the feature was first introduced in the Huawei Pura X model.

To activate the feature, users must launch the Huawei Reader app’s Menu and go to Page Turning Icon >  Eye Movement Page Turning to enable it. Once activated, users can read at a normal pace and will notice a “Look up… Turn to the next page” sign at the bottom of the page. Moving one’s eyes to the top of the screen automatically turns the page to the next.

According to Huawei, the feature is only available in the Huawei Reader’s portrait and full-screen modes. It is also important to note that it does not work on external displays, split screens, or landscape modes. The ideal distance between the display and the user for efficient eye detection is about 20cm to 50 cm. Users must also ensure that there is sufficient ambient light when using the feature and that their device displays are clean.
