Huawei Mate Xs 2 might be the inspiration behind foldable iPhone’s ‘wrap-around design’

Apple is reportedly working on its first foldable iPhone. Several factors are hindering the device’s release, especially its crease. Nonetheless, recent reports claim that the Cupertino giant will employ the same design as the Huawei Mate Xs 2 to resolve this issue.

Apple continues to maintain a significant position in the smartphone industry, but it is undeniable that the foldable segment is gradually becoming a threat to its business. With this, the iPhone maker is now believed to be working on its foldable creation, which is rumored to be released in 2026.

As per earlier reports, the crease is one of the main challenges Apple is facing regarding the foldable iPhone. Yet, according to Haitong International analyst Jeff Pu in an investor note (via 9To5Mac) this week, Apple’s 7.9-inch foldable will be “similar” to the Huawei Mate Xs 2 in terms of its “wrap-around foldable design.”

This is unsurprising as Huawei’s Mate Xs 2 is one of the most interesting foldable devices in the market. Although it is not entirely impressive by today’s standards, its folding design remains one of the most reliable technologies in the industry.

Recently, the Chinese company revealed more details about its foldable creations, sharing how its “transparent vest” polysiloxane works in the Mate X3 and X5 screens. The tech giant claims the material has allowed its new foldable screens to be four times better than Mate X2 and be resistant to sharp object scratches and one-meter drops.

In the future, the tech is expected to be adopted by Huawei’s next-gen creations, including its rumored first tri-fold smartphone. Hopefully, this should allow the brand to continuously dominate the foldable market, which it recently snagged away from Samsung.
