The Huawei Pura 70 series is “selling well,” and its predecessor is rumored to arrive in May with an improved camera system.
Tipster Digital Chat Station shared the news on Weibo. According to the tipster, the vanilla model and the satellite variant collected more than 5 million activations, while the Pro version garnered 3 million activations. To recall, the Pura 70 series is comprised of the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro+, and Pura 70 Ultra models.
The Chinese smartphone giant is expected to introduce the series’ successor this year. After earlier rumors about the launch being pushed back to the May-June timeline, DCS has now directly claimed that it is set for a May debut. While the tipster noted that Huawei will introduce “no major changes to the chip,” he promised a huge development in the camera of the Huawei Pura 80 series. To recall, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra offers a 50MP wide (1.0″) with PDAF, Laser AF, sensor-shift OIS, and a retractable lens; a 50MP telephoto with PDAF, OIS, and 3.5x optical zoom (35x super macro mode); and a 40MP ultrawide with AF.
According to earlier leaks, the Pura 80 Ultra will have a more powerful camera system than the other models of the series. The device is allegedly armed with a 50MP 1″ main camera paired with a 50MP ultrawide unit and a large periscope with a 1/1.3″ sensor. The system also allegedly implements a variable aperture for the main camera. Huawei is also rumored to be developing its own self-developed camera system for the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra. A leak suggested that aside from the software side, the hardware division of the system, including the OmniVision lenses currently being used in the Pura 70 series, could also change.
