Interesting Phone Feature: Read Incoming Call Info

Read Incoming Call Info is a long existing feature by now that is built-in on certain OEM and stock AOSP ROMs and iOS systems. When the option is enabled, your device uses the speaker, or based on your preference the headsets, to announce the caller name while your phone is ringing. This feature is especially great for disabled people, but also great for everyone in general if you do not wish to pick up your phone just to know who is calling.

What is Read Incoming Call Info

Although it is quite a useful feature, Caller ID feature is not incorporated with every single ROM out there but it comes built-in with Google apps. If you have an Android device, you are in luck! Because even if your OEM ROM does not come with stock Google apps, these apps are available to use in Play Store. The feature is basically available on any Android device. If you do not have Google’s phone app, simply install it using the link below:

Once you have installed it, simply open the Phone app, ho into Settings using the three dots icon on top right corner of the screen, select Caller ID announcement at the bottom and select Always or Only when using a headset option based on your preference. You will now be hearing the name of the caller whenever your phone rings!

If for some reason you are having trouble with Phone by Google app, there are alternative 3rd party apps that are available to you as well, such as TrueDialer.

IOS operating system has a built-in setting for this feature which is quite easy to activate. All you have to do is:

  • Open Settings
  • Scroll down and tap on Phone
  • Under the Calls section, you will see Announce Calls menu, select it
  • In here, you can select any of the options based on your preference

Once you are done with it, you will be able to hear the caller name without having to pick up your phone. You can also use these features in way to only hear the caller name on headphone or headphones and cars.
