MediaTek Dimensity 9200 Introduced: Flagship chipset to power next generation devices

Today, MediaTek launched Dimensity 9200 chipset at its event. Dimensity 9200 is MediaTek’s new flagship chipset. It is the first processor to use Arm’s next-generation CPU cores. It’s also the first MediaTek chipset to feature hardware based ray tracing technology. Significant improvements are also made at some points such as ISP and Modem. Compared to Dimensity 9000, it will raise the bar higher.

Here comes the MediaTek Dimensity 9200! MediaTek is promoting this chipset with big goals. As the first chipset to use Arm’s latest CPU cores, it takes performance to the top. The extreme performance core is 3.05GHz Cortex-X3. Our other auxiliary cores are 2.85GHz Cortex-A715 and 1.8GHz Cortex-A510. The new Dimensity 9200 4nm+ (N4P) is built on TSMC manufacturing technique.

This is important because it offers high performance and power efficiency. Now the Dimensity 9200 will only be able to run 64-bit supported applications. Because none of the current CPU cores support 32-bit applications. This is done to improve performance. It has some common features with the Dimensity 9000. Some of them are that it has 8MB of L3 memory and 6MB of System Level Cache (SLC). Switched from LPDDR5X (7533Mbps) on Dimensity 9000 to the fastest LPDDR5X (8533Mbps) ever. UFS 4.0 storage units can be used with this chipset. Compared to Dimensity 9000, it is stated that there is a 12% performance improvement in single core and 10% performance improvement in multi-core.

On the GPU side, it uses Inmortalis G715 designed by Arm. This is the first Arm GPU to support Hardware based Ray Tracing technology. Coming in 11-core configuration, Immortalis G715 powers the new Dimensity 9200. The chipset also includes some features such as Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Vulkan 1.3 and HyperGaming 6.0. It is said to support 240Hz in FHD and 60Hz refresh rate in 5K resolution. A smartphone with a screen resolution of 5K is unlikely to be announced anytime soon. Still, it’s good to hear about such a development. MediaTek announced that it can work with 32% performance improvement and 41% power efficiency. In the new smartphones to be introduced, it will be clear whether these claims are true.

It comes with significant changes on the ISP side. Some of these are the new AI-Video Engine. It extends battery life by reducing power consumption when recording 4K or 8K video. It does this with support from the APU. It also supports camera sensors up to 320MP. With the improvements it has made in MediaTek ISP and artificial intelligence sections, it can enable you to capture very good photos. Finally, when it comes to connectivity, it is the first chipset to host Wifi 7. It also has Bluetooth 5.3 technology. So what do you guys think about the new Dimensity 9200? Do not forget to express your opinions.
