Chinese OEMs’ global foldable shipments swell in 2024 despite insignificant overall market growth https://xiaomiui.net/chinese-oem-global-foldable-shipments-swell-2024-insignificant-overall-market-growth-62610/ Tue, 01 Apr 2025 07:44:57 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=62610 Chinese brands had a great 2024 for their global smartphone foldable shipments. However, it is not good news at all, as the entire market had scant growth at 2.9%.

Research firm Counterpoint Research shared that almost all Chinese smartphone companies saw a huge increase in their global smartphone foldable shipments last year, except for Oppo, which had a 72% drop.

According to the report, Motorola, Xiaomi, Honor, Huawei, and Vivo had a 253%, 108%, 106%, 54%, and 23% growth last year in the foldable market. While this sounds impressive, the firm shared that the general foldable market barely made an improvement in 2024. Counterpoint underscored that the reason behind the low 2.9% growth of the foldable market was Samsung and Oppo.

“Although many OEMs saw double- and triple-digit growth, the market’s overall growth was impacted by Samsung’s tough Q4 due to political instability, and OPPO cutting production of its more affordable clamshell foldables,” Counterpoint shared.

According to the firm, this slow growth will continue in 2025, but it noted that 2026 will be the year for foldables. Counterpoint predicts that the said year will be dominated by Samsung and, interestingly, Apple, which is expected to release its first foldable in 2026.

Redmi model with 7500mAh+ battery reportedly has first dibs on Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 https://xiaomiui.net/redmi-7500mah-battery-first-dibs-sd-8s-gen-4-62608/ Tue, 01 Apr 2025 07:41:56 +0000 https://xiaomiui.net/?p=62608 A reputable leaker claimed that Xiaomi will be the first to present a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4-powered device in the market.

Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 this Wednesday at its event. After this, we should hear about the first smartphone that will be powered by the said SoC.

While official information about the handheld remains unavailable, Digital Chat Station shared on Weibo that it would be from Xiaomi Redmi.

According to earlier reports, the 4nm chip contains 1 x 3.21GHz Cortex-X4, 3 x 3.01GHz Cortex-A720, 2 x 2.80GHz Cortex-A720, and 2 x 2.02GHz Cortex-A720. DCS claimed that the chip’s “actual performance is really good,” noting that it could be called “Little Supreme.”

The tipster also claimed that a Redmi-branded model is the first to arrive with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The phone is said to offer a huge battery with a capacity of more than 7500mAh and a flat display with ultra-thin bezels.

The tipster didn’t name the smartphone, but earlier reports revealed that Xiaomi is preparing the  Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, which is reportedly housing the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Rumor has it that the phone will also offer a 6.8″ flat 1.5K display, a 7550mAh battery, 90W charging support, a metal middle frame, a glass back, and a short-focus in-screen fingerprint scanner.
