Official explains link between Nothing Phone (3)’s SD 8s Gen 4 SoC, 7 years of support

Co-founder and Head of Marketing for Nothing, Akis Evangelidis, shared the reason why the upcoming Nothing Phone (3) only uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 to get seven years of software support.

The Nothing flagship smartphone will launch on July 1. The company started teasing the model more than a week ago, and thanks to a leak, we have already uncovered its design. Now, the company’s Evangelidishas has stepped forward, confirming that the phone will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.

The choice didn’t please everyone, and some even questioned the company about it. Yet, Evangelidis explained that this chip will allow the brand to deliver seven years of support for the handheld, unlike the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which “has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity, and ISP” and has a default software support of four years for major OS updates and four years of security patches.

In earlier reports, CEO Carl Pei shared that the upcoming model will be priced “around £800” (around $1063) and has “premium materials” and “major performance upgrades.” A leak recently revealed that the Nothing Phone (3) would be available in black and white colorways. It reportedly has a base configuration of 12GB/256GB and a top configuration of 16GB/512GB, which are priced at $799 and $899, respectively.
