Oppo dominated 2024 SE Asia smartphone market for the first time

New data from Canalys shows that Oppo became the main brand in Southeast Asia last year, which is a first for the brand.

According to the report, Transsion actually topped the last quarter of 2024 with a 17% market share and 4.1 million shipments. During the same period, Oppo only garnered 16% market share, placing it in the second spot.

Yet Oppo’s overall performance last year allowed it to get the biggest number of shipments and market share in the Southeast Asian smartphone market. As per Canalys, the Chinese brand secured an 18% market share, translating to 16.9 million shipments and 14% growth compared to its performance in 2023.

Interestingly, Oppo even managed to attain this success without including the shipments from OnePlus. Canalys said that the brand’s Oppo A18 and Oppo A3x aided the company a lot.

“Oppo’s strong performance in 2024 reflects its success in product calibration and high-end investments,” said Canalys Analyst Le Xuan Chiew. “The A18 was the year’s best-selling model, while the rebranded A3x helped drive higher channel shipments.”

Other well-known brands that dominated the said market last year included Samsung, Transsion, Xiaomi, and Vivo, which owned 17%, 16%, 16%, and 13% market shares, respectively.
