After its release, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL finally joined the DxOMark smartphone camera ranking this week. Although the Pixel phone failed to snatch the top spot, it managed to secure the second spot. The standard Pixel 9 also entered the list as the top-seven phone in the ranking.
Google launched the new Pixel 9 series this month, revealing its new vanilla Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Two of the phones, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, are now available and were recently tested at DxOMark.
Unfortunately, despite the upgrades made by Google in the phones’ camera systems, they failed to beat the current top-ranker Huawei Pura 70 Ultra. This, nonetheless, is not entirely bad news for Google as its Pixel 9 Pro XL model managed to reach the second spot, where it scored 158 in the camera department, putting it in the same place as the Honor Magic 6 Pro.
According to DxOMark, these are the main strengths of Google Pixel 9 Pro XL’s clear system:
- Well-balanced camera experience with outstanding results in most categories, providing excellent image and video quality across a variety of shooting conditions
- Good zoom performance, with images containing a high level of details across the entire zoom range
- Good overall video performance with effective video stabilization and good autofocus, particularly with video boost feature activated
- Consistently captures the moment in all conditions, even with motion in the scene, bringing outstanding results in all shooting situations, whether in photo and in video
- Excellent display colors that are accurate and natural, including skin tones in various lighting conditions
- Great HDR10 video-watching experience
- Well-balanced front-camera performance, whether taking photos or videos, with consistently accurate skin tones
The vanilla Pixel 9 also entered the top 10 by placing 7th on the list, sharing the same spot with the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to the review, here are the main advantages spotted in the camera of the Pixel 9 model:
