Poco names M6 5G as ‘the most affordable 5G phone ever’ after new Airtel partnership

Poco has once again made a partnership with Airtel to offer Poco M6 5G to its customers in India. Through the new deal, the Chinese smartphone brand described the model as “the most affordable 5G phone ever” in the Indian market now.

The news came after Poco India CEO Himanshu Tandon teased that the company would release the “most affordable 5G” device ever in the Indian market through an Airtel partnership.

“Special Airtel variant at most affordable price ever,” Tandon wrote in his post. “Making it the most affordable 5G device in the market.”

According to Poco, the new offer is priced at Rs 8,799 on Flipkart starting on March 10. The model was first launched in the said market last December, and the deal should provide the device in an exclusive Airtel prepaid bundle with a 50GB of one-time mobile data offer. This is identical to Poco’s Airtel-exclusive version of Poco C51 in July 2023, wherein it offered customers in India the deal for Rs 5,999 with 50GB of one-time mobile data for the device. For non-Airtel customers, nonetheless, the company stressed that there is an option for SIM delivery, which includes the same perks and instant activation.

Compared to the initial launch price of the device, the deal indeed offers better value now. To recall, users in India were first offered the 4GB/128GB, 6GB/128GB, and 8GB/256GB variants of the device for Rs 10,499, Rs 11,499, and Rs 13,499, respectively.

The great reduction of the device’s price is part of the company’s plan to aggressively target the low-end market. The plan could be traced back as early as July last year when the executive shared it.

“…we’re targeting to disrupt that space by launching the most affordable 5G phone in the market. The overall 5G lineup in the market has a starting price of Rs 12,000-Rs 13,000. We will be more aggressive than that,” Tandon told Economic Times in July last year.

Despite its discounted price tag, M6 5G comes with a decent set of hardware and specifications, which include its MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, a 5,000mAh battery with 18W wired charging, a 6.74-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and a rear 50 MP primary sensor and a front 5MP cam. As noted above, the device is available in three configurations, with its color options being Galactic Black, Orion Blue, and Polaris Green.
