Poco India exec reveals company is preparing ‘the most affordable 5G device’

Poco India CEO Himanshu Tandon revealed that the company might soon release the “most affordable 5G” device ever in the Indian market.

In a recent post, the executive shared that the brand under Xiaomi will be having another partnership with Airtel. After being asked whether the new model would be under the Poco Neo series or the F6 series, Tandon revealed that it wouldn’t be an Airtel version of a current model, albeit he didn’t specify if it would be a smartphone or another device. Nonetheless, the Poco India head promised that it could be the cheapest 5G product to be offered by the brand in the market. If true, the new device will follow the path of the POCO C51, which was also a product of the two companies’ partnership.

“Special Airtel variant at most affordable price ever,” Tandon added in his post. “Making it the most affordable 5G device in the market.”

The claim from Tandon is not surprising as Poco focuses on the low-end market. Last year, the executive also hinted at this plan, promising to be “more aggressive” in offering cheaper 5G devices in the market.

“…we’re targeting to disrupt that space by launching the most affordable 5G phone in the market. The overall 5G lineup in the market has a starting price of Rs 12,000-Rs 13,000. We will be more aggressive than that,” Tandon told Economic Times in July last year.

Sadly, despite reiterating this plan, the executive didn’t share other details about the partnership and the plan for the product.

In related news, Poco is also reportedly preparing another budget phone: the C61. According to leaks, the model is believed to be largely similar to the Redmi A3. In that case, fans can also expect that the MediaTek Helio G36 (or G95) SoC should also be in C61, alongside other features and specifications already present in the A3. Of course, not everything will be exactly the same in the new Poco smartphone, so expect some variations, including in the display size. While the A3 has 6.71 inches of display, the C61 could have a bit smaller or bigger display, with some reports claiming it would be at 720 x 1680 6.74 inches with a 60 Hz refresh rate.

Other details believed to be arriving at the Poco C61 include a 64MP dual rear camera and 8MP front camera, 4 GB RAM and 4 GB virtual RAM, 128 internal storage and memory card slot up to 1TB, 4G connection, and a 5000mAh battery.
