Qualcomm has announced new high performance flagship chipset Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Today, the new flagship processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was introduced at the Snapdragon TechSummit 2022 event. Qualcomm continues to be the pioneer of firsts with this chipset. Last week, MediaTek’s new player, Dimensity 9200, was launched. For the first time, we encountered new features such as the latest CPU cores based on Arm’s V9 architecture, hardware-based ray tracing technology and Wifi-7 in a chip. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 doesn’t lag behind its rival, Dimensity 9200. It has the same pioneering features. It is also stated that it is highly optimized on the ISP side. Without further ado, let’s delve deeper into the new chipset.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Specifications

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is dazzling. It will power the new flagship smartphones of 2023. Many brands have confirmed that they will introduce their models using this processor by the end of the year. Qualcomm calls “breakthrough artificial intelligence” SOC, will be used by brands such as ASUS ROG, HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, RedMagic, Redmi, Sharp, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, XINGJI/MEIZU, and ZTE. This is an exciting development.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has an octa-core CPU setup that can reach 3.2GHz. The extreme performance core is new 3.2GHz Cortex-X3 designed by ARM. Auxiliary cores are seen as 2.8GHz Cortex-A715 and 2.0GHz Cortex-A510. Compared to its predecessor Qualcomm chips, there are increases in clock speeds. It does this with superior TSMC 4nm+ (N4P) manufacturing technique. TSMC manufacturing technique has been proven time and again to be successful. Qualcomm had some problems with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 because of Samsung.

Problems such as excessive power consumption, heating and FPS drops in games disappointed users. Qualcomm later realized this. It has released Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the enhanced version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The most important difference of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is that it is built on TSMC production technique. We have seen power efficiency and sustainable performance much better. New Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 continues that understanding. It has been announced that there will be a 40% increase in power efficiency. MediaTek has not announced such a high increase in its new chip. Let’s say in advance that we will examine the performance situation on new smartphones in detail.

On the GPU side, Qualcomm claimed a 25% performance increase over its predecessor. It has some new features that we see in its competitors. Some of them are that it has hardware-based ray tracing technology. API supports include OpenGl ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.3. Qualcomm talked about a feature called a new Snapdragon Shadow Denoiser. This feature makes some changes to the shadows in games based on the scene, according to our estimations. Variable Rate Shading (VRS) has existed since Snapdragon 888. However, this is a different feature. The new Adreno GPU aims to give you the best gaming experience.

Qualcomm talks about increased performance up to 4.3 times in artificial intelligence. Performance per watt was said to have improved by 60%. New Hexagon processor, instant translations will be performed better. It will enable faster processing of the photos you have taken. Speaking of photography, we need to mention the new ISP. A close relationship has been established with sensor manufacturers. Qualcomm has made some tweaks accordingly. The first 200MP image sensor optimized for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Samsung ISOCELL HP3 delivers professional quality photos and videos. It is also the first Snapdragon chipset to be equipped with AV1 codec, which supports video playback up to 8K HDR and up to 60 frames per second. It turns out that we will see a new 200MP ISOCELL HP3 sensor in Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series.

Finally, on the connectivity side, Snapdragon X70 5G Modem is revealed. It can reach 10Gbps download and 3.5Gbps upload speeds. On the wifi side, it’s the first time a Qualcomm chip features Wifi-7 and a peak speed of 5.8Gbps is offered. These are important developments. We are looking forward to the new smartphones. There are many users who want to experience these features. Don’t worry, as we explained above, smartphone manufacturers will introduce Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices by the end of the year. So what do you think about the new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2? Do not forget to express your opinions.
