Xiaomi released Redmi 9A with MIUI 12 based on Android 10 in 2020. There hasn’t been any major update except for MIUI 12.5 update released 2 months ago but now it’s time for Android 11 update.
Mediatek is notorious for delaying BSPs (board support package) for new Android versions. Considering most smartphones with MediaTek MT6762G Helio G25 only recently received their Android 11 updates, we think Xiaomi was waiting for Mediatek to provide them Android 11 BSP and that’s why this update is late than usual.
Redmi 9A is going to get Android 11 update because an unreleased update appeared for Redmi 9A in China. Currently, it’s only for China but it will be released to global eventually.
Update is marked as V12.5.1.0.RCDCNXM and Xiaomi is going to release it once they ensure update is free of bugs.

Android 12 is released some time ago and we published an article about Android 13. Android 11 update for Redmi 9A is definitely late but I say better late than never.
When are we going to receive the update?
Xiaomi may release couple of security patches based on Android 10 before releasing MIUI based on Android 11 but it shouldn’t take more than few weeks. Users should be aware of update notifications and they should wait patiently.
Android 11 Features
There aren’t many features that come with Android 11, but the most useful feature is revamped app permissions. Redmi 9A users can now grant temporary or one-time only permissions to apps to ensure they are not being tracked. It certainly is a welcome addition.
Can we install it manually?
Someone leaked V12.5.0.2.RCDCNXM based on Android 11 internal build more than 2 months ago. Xiaomi tested many more internal builds after this so be cautious if you want to test this update. Nevertheless, if you want to test it out you can install this rom by following third step of our guide.
