Rumors about Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-powered devices are unneiably exciting. However, according to recent talks about Qualcomm’s next-gen chip, the prices of these creations could increase, with prices rumored to start at $620.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip is expected to launch in October. According to reports, the chip has a 2+6 core architecture, with the first two cores expected to be high-performance cores clocked at 3.6 GHz to 4.0 GHz. Meanwhile, the six cores are likely the efficiency cores.
Xiaomi reportedly has the exclusive right to announce the first series of smartphones armed with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. After it announces the Xiaomi 15 lineup, other brands are expected to follow suit, including OnePlus and iQOO, which are said to be using the SoC in the OnePlus 13 and iQOO 13, respectively.
Needless to say, there’s great expectation for the chip. However, it is believed that the chip built on TSMC’s 3nm process could raise the price of devices it will power. In a recent post on Weibo, a leaker account underlined that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-armed phones would have price tags starting at CN¥4,500 in China, which is equivalent to $620.
We still advise our readers to take this claim with a pinch of salt, but it is not entirely impossible. Currently, aside from the chip, the next-generation flagships of various brands are also rumored to get other feature upgrades. As such, price hikes appear inevitable, especially with companies now integrating better camera systems, bigger batteries, and the latest tech (AI and ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor) in their creations.
