New test shows Vivo X Fold 5 surviving -20°C ‘for a long time’

Vivo released a new clip showing the Vivo X Fold 5 performing well despite being placed in a -20°C environment for an extended period.

The brand’s series of teasers indicates that the foldable is coming soon. In its latest move, the Chinese company published a new clip highlighting the model’s ability to withstand extreme temperatures.

As underscored by Vivo’s Han Boxiao, the X Fold 3 can also work even when placed in a -20°C setting. However, the new foldable could allegedly take it further by surviving the cold temperature “for a long time.”

The clip is just seconds long, though, and doesn’t show the foldable working for a “long” period, so we can’t really confirm this. Yet, the executive claimed that “all functions can operate normally,” including its second-generation semi-solid battery. According to him, the phone also has a stronger third layer of protection, allowing it to work even in such cold settings.

The news follows an earlier revelation by the brand about the phone’s protection ratings. According to Vivo, the new X Fold has a higher IP5X for dust resistance and IPX8 for water resistance, so that it can withstand water submersion for more than 1 meter. Moreover, aside from the IPX9 for high-pressure and high-temperature water jet resistance, it also has IPX9+, allowing users to fold the phone under 1 meter deep in the water for up to 1000 times.
