A new report from Counterpoint Research named the brands that dominated China’s smartphone market last year.
The firm shared that the countries’ smartphone sales grew 1.5% YoY, which is good news since it experienced a 1.4% YoY decline in 2023. In the last quarter of 2024, the biggest contributor in the market was Huawei, which owned 18.1% during the period, followed by Xiaomi and Apple at 17.2% and 17.1%, respectively. Vivo (including iQOO’s sales) ranked fourth in the same quarter at 16.3%, and the ranking ended with Honor and Oppo, which secured 13.6% and 12.5% market shares in Q424.
However, the report underscores that in terms of annual ranking, Vivo was the true champion in China’s 2024 smartphone market. In total, accumulated 17.8% of the market share last year, followed by Huawei, Xiaomi, Apple, Honor, and Oppo, which got 16.3%, 15.7%, 15.5%, 15.0%, and 14.3%, respectively.
While Vivo dominated the country’s smartphone market, Senior Research Analyst Mengmeng Zhang applauded Huawei for its success despite its struggles. The official expressed admiration for the brand’s growth amid the challenges it is facing, including the US ban. To recall, IDC reported that Huawei topped China’s 2024 foldable smartphone market as well.
“In Q4 2024, Huawei climbed to the top spot with an 18.1% share,” Mengmeng Zhang shared. “This is the first time since the US ban that Huawei regained the leading position. Huawei’s sales increased 15.5% YoY driven by the launch of the mid-end Nova 13 series and high-end Mate 70 series.”
