A new claim says that Xiaomi will no longer use the compact 6.3″ display in its upcoming vanilla Xiaomi 16 model.
That’s according to renowned leaker Smart Pikachu on Weibo, saying that the upcoming Xiaomi 16 is now under test. The post says that the Xiaomi 16’s display is now “enlarged,” making it bigger than the Xiaomi 15’s 6.36″ flat 120Hz OLED.
According to the tipster, the change will make the device lighter and thinner. Using a bigger display for the smartphone provides more internal space for the manufacturer to put the handheld’s essential components. As per Smart Pikachu, the phone will also house an ultra-thin periscope unit, echoing an earlier leak about its camera system. This is also a huge change since the vanilla Xiaomi 15 lacks optical zoom capabilities and a periscope camera unit.
In related news, the Xiaomi 16 series is expected to arrive in October of this year. The Pro model of the lineup is rumored to have an iPhone-like Action Button, which users can customize. The button could summon the phone’s AI assistant and work as a pressure-sensitive gaming button. It also reportedly supports camera functions and activates the Mute mode. However, a leak says adding the button could decrease the battery capacity of the Xiaomi 16 Pro by 100mAh. Yet, this should not be much of a concern since the phone is rumored to still offer a battery with a capacity of around 7000mAh.
