Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max spotted on GSMA… and it’s going global

A new leak has revealed that the Ultra model no longer has the uppermost position in Xiaomi’s numbered flagship series. That’s because, in addition to an Ultra model, the Xiaomi 16 series is allegedly coming with a new Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max variant.

The Xiaomi 16 series is expected to arrive in September. However, like in the past, the Chinese brand could split the announcement of the models. As such, the first debut could only include the vanilla and Pro (including the compact Xiaomi 16 Pro Mini model), while the second unveiling will present the Xiaomi 16 Ultra.

However, according to the GSMA database spotted recently, there will be two Ultras in the series this year. In the database, a P1 model emerged, believed to be the regular Xiaomi 16 Ultra. It will be released in three variants (2512BPNDAC, 2512BPNDAI, and 2512BPNDG) for China, India, and the global market. Joining it is the P1S, which could be called the Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max or Xiaomi 16S Ultra. Unlike the other Ultra, the phone will only have two variants: 25128PNA1G (global) and 25128PNA1C (China).

The details of the said device are currently unavailable, but it is speculated to be a higher version of the regular Ultra. With this, a better camera system and battery could be used in the said handheld.

According to earlier reports, the Xiaomi 16 series will use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. This should include both the Xiaomi 16 Ultra and Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max. An earlier leak also revealed that the latter could feature a periscope unit and, interestingly, a rear display. To recall, the Chinese giant introduced the concept in the Mi 11 Ultra model in 2021, giving users minor detail peeks like notifications, time, battery level, music control, and more. The idea faded, and the company later continued producing regular design models, focusing on their rear camera setups.
