There are tons of apps available on the Play Store, we can easily say that there are unlimited amount of apps on Android since you can install any APK file you wish, and yet Xiaomi discriminates against some global developers.
In the Android world, Android devices available globally and in China are quite different than each other. Chinese smartphone manufacturers apply too many restrictions, such that some Chinese phone manufacturers do not allow their phones’ bootloader to be unlocked, while globally available Android phones’ bootloader can be unlocked easily. People prefer Android because it’s free, right?
Xiaomi discriminates some apps without any reason – The unsubstantial warnings on MIUI!
While the recent versions of Android boast enhanced security measures, a few years back, even a simple APK had the potential to exploit users’ data. To avoid that, phone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, took precaution by introducing their security applications and establishing a comprehensive database of malicious apps. Users are being warned by a notification if the app they want to install includes any kind of virus.
This is very good step to protect users but Xiaomi has also started to issue warnings to some apps without any malware or virus. The reason for the security warning is not because the app contains malware, but because of a discrimination made by Xiaomi. It is quite normal to run a virus scan while an APK file is being installed, but Xiaomi also scans apps from the Play Store. It seems that Xiaomi’s virus detection is more advanced than Google’s.
Xiaomiui’s Android apps are available on Google Play Store and have already passed the Google’s security tests, and none of these apps contain malware. You may ask yourself, “Is MIUI Downloader safe?” and in fact, even Google’s “Play Protect” does not show users a warning, while Xiaomi sends false warnings for many apps, including MIUI Downloader and some apps made by Xiaomiui team.
What’s worse is that MIUI doesn’t only give warnings to apps by Xiaomiui, but some users have reported getting warnings even when trying to install wellknown apps like Facebook (Lite version) or Snapchat.
Xiaomiui team has released many applications but MIUI Downloader, MIUI Updater, and MIUI Downloader Enhanced, these all of are which fell victim to Xiaomi’s mobbing actions. Users receive notifications from Xiaomi despite the absence of any malware inside the applications.
MIUI Downloader has been released on Google Play Store for quite a long time and already got 1 million downloads on Play Store. A newly released MIUI Downloader Enhanced raised 100,000 downloads. Remarkably, neither the Google Play Store nor any Android virus scanning application raises any red flags. Therefore, it is evident that Xiaomi discriminates against applications developed by specific developers and misleads users.
