Xiaomi could be working on a foldable phone with a clamshell-like folding design. The company recently patented a design from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) which reveals the sketches of this alleged flip phone. Xiaomi unveiled its first foldable phone – Mi Mix Fold last year, and now it seems that the company is looking to delve deeper into this segment.
The patent was initially spotted by MySmartPrice on CNIPA, the publication shared a number of sketches of the Xiaomi flip phone from various angles. As mentioned, it has a clamshell-like opening and closing with hinges seen on both the side edges similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series. There are thick bezels surrounding the edges.
As seen in the images, there is no camera cutout on the front which signals that the smartphone may feature an under-display camera. On the rear, it has a visor-like camera module inspired by Google Pixel 6 series or maybe Star Wars. I think it’s the latter.
The camera bar has three cutouts, one of which could be for the LED flash meaning that the Xiaomi flip phone could sport a dual-camera setup. We are still in dark about the Camera specs and other major specifications of the smartphone. It can be seen in the images that the volume and power buttons reside on the right edge, whereas the SIM tray, speaker grille, and USB Type-C port are located at the bottom edge.
Of course, this is just a patent and we are not sure if Xiaomi is even working on the smartphone or not. However, if the company decides to launch this foldable phone, it will certainly create a problem for Samsung’s upcoming foldables.
