Xiaomi, Huawei lead China’s 25Q1 smartphone market

Xiaomi and Huawei secured China’s smartphone market in the first quarter of 2025.

That’s according to the latest data shared by Counterpoint Research. According to the firm, this is all possible through China’s subsidy program. The move allowed Huawei and Xiaomi to gain 18% and 40% of shipment growth year over year, respectively. To compare, Xiaomi and Huawei had 16% and 17% market share in the last quarter of 2024.

According to the report, the Chinese government’s national subsidy program during the holidays allowed smartphone shipments to increase by 5% year over year in Q1 2025.

The news follows the debut of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra in China on February 27. Thanks to its impressive camera and display details, the Ultra model allowed the brand to further infiltrate the premium segment domestically.

Meanwhile, the Huawei Pura 70 and Mate 60 series became the superstars in China during the first quarter of the year. According to earlier reports, the Huawei Pura 70 series achieved 11M activations in March. As per a tipster, the vanilla model and the satellite variant collected more than 5 million activations, while the Pro version garnered 3 million activations. The Mate 70 series, on the other hand, was welcomed warmly by fans in China after it immediately gathered 6.7 million reservations, which even resulted in a “slightly insufficient” supply issue for the brand during that time.
