Reputable leaker Digital Chat Station revealed that Xiaomi currently has no plans to use its new Xring O1 chip in Redmi devices.
Xiaomi is debuting the Xiaomi 15S Pro this Thursday. The phone’s main highlight is the company’s in-house 3nm Xring O1 chipset. The SoC is reportedly a good match against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. According to earlier reports, the chip is equipped with 1x Cortex-X925 (3.2GHz), 3x Cortex-A725 (2.6GHz), and 4x Cortex-A520 (2.0GHz).
While the Chinese giant will keep on working with Qualcomm despite managing to create its chip, fans can’t help but speculate about the possibility of Xiaomi using the Xring O1 in its sub-brands in the future. Nonetheless, that might still be far from the future, as DCS claimed in a recent post that Xiaomi has “no such plan at present” to do so.
With this, fans can still expect that future Redmi phones will be powered by Qualcomm and MediaTek chips. Qualcomm and Xiaomi extended their partnership recently, confirming that the latter’s flagship phones will still use Snapdragon SoCs.
“We value the relationship we have built resulting from 15 years of close collaboration and are excited to continue this journey for many years to come, with Snapdragon platforms powering Xiaomi’s premium smartphones,” said Cristiano Amon, president and CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated.
