The Xiaomi Redmi 9 may be a far cry in terms of specifications and raw power from the Redmi Note 9 series, but it now appears that the Xiaomi software development team has a favorite among the two.
This is because the MIUI 12.5 stable update is now rolling out for the device in China. By this release, the Redmi 9 has beaten most of the Redmi Note 9 series (barring the China variant of the Redmi Note 9) which for some reason is still stuck on MIUI 12.
For the uninitiated, the MIUI 12.5 update brings major performance improvements due to the usage of fancy stuff like prioritized gesture rendering and the reduction of CPU usage by around 22%. Along with that, you also get some UI tweaks, enhanced privacy features, new system sounds, and a brand new Notes app.

The update also finally re-enables the much demanded Gaussian blur behind the Control Center on the Xiaomi Redmi 9, which had been replaced with a grey background on MIUI 12 owing to performance issues.
Do keep in mind that the build is for the Chinese variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 9, so it won’t be directly installable if you’re running global MIUI 12 ROM. However, you wouldn’t have to wait much longer now since the Xiaomi Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 global update should be rolling out in the coming weeks.
Also, the Redmi 9’s Poco counterpart – the Poco M2 – should also be getting it soon. Basically, it’s raining good news!
