Xiaomi urges YouTubers to avoid uncovering negative aspects of devices during reviews!

A recent video from the TechTablets channel on YouTube has revealed that Xiaomi does not want negative aspects of their devices to be revealed during reviews. TechTablets is a channel that reviews not only Xiaomi smartphones, but also tablets, laptops, and even Xiaomi’s some scooters.

Xiaomi used to send review units to TechTablets, but it appears that the company is unhappy with the “facts” presented in their videos. TechTablets reviews devices from various brands and highlights both the positive and negative aspects of the devices.

So Xiaomi is not happy about it, what’s in the videos?

In some videos, TechTablets points out that USB Type-C port has USB 2.0 speeds and that the front camera quality is quite poor compared to the competition. Although Xiaomi 13 Ultra was upgraded to USB 3.0, the midrange phones suffer the same fate. Moreover, TechTablets highlighted that Xiaomi phones do not have wind filter in their microphones, and that the audio bitrate recorded in videos should have been 320 Kbps but was recorded at 96 Kbps on older Xiaomi devices. It seems that Xiaomi isn’t happy with these criticisms, as they have stopped sending smartphones to TechTablets as review units.

Another intriguing thing Xiaomi has made an unusual request for TechTablets to refrain from reviewing Chinese variants of Xiaomi phones on the channel. Xiaomi doesn’t give Chinese variants review units for sure, the channel owner has obtained them by purchasing them himself. It is possible that the reason behind Xiaomi’s request is that phones released in China are generally better the one that has been released globally.

Regardless of the validity of the reason, Xiaomi appears to want to take the whole control over channels on YouTube. It is important for consumers to know the advantages and disadvantages of Xiaomi 13 series, which is priced similarly to Samsung Galaxy and iPhones, before deciding to purchase it. The pricing of Xiaomi smartphones have been gradually approaching that of Samsung and Apple recently. If reviewers are not permitted to provide honest reviews, how will consumers make decisions about which phone is suitable for them?
