Xiaomi CIVI 3 launched in China! Specs and pricing here.

Xiaomi has unveiled their latest selfie camera phone, Xiaomi CIVI 3. This device is in the Xiaomi CIVI series, which is specifically designed for people who heavily rely on the front camera or let’s say that for people who have a penchant for taking selfies. CIVI 3 brings an unprecedented feature that’s never possible before on any Xiaomi phone and that is 4K video recording using the front camera.

Xiaomi CIVI 2 also had a very good front camera, but video recording with the front camera was only capped at 1080p at either 30 or 60 FPS. CIVI 3 comes equipped with two front-facing cameras. The first camera offers a wide-angle lens with a field of view of 100°, ideal for capturing group selfies. The second camera has a narrower angle which has a FOV of 78°, very good for single-person selfies. With its ambitious specifications, Xiaomi CIVI 3 promises to deliver remarkable performance. Now, let’s delve into the specifications of this brand new smartphone by Xiaomi.

Display

Xiaomi CIVI 3 uses a Chinese display, just like the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Xiaomi has consistently offered Samsung displays for a long time but Xiaomi CIVI 3 introduces a deviation from this trend by featuring the C6 display.

This new display doesn’t have the extreme brightness of 2600 nits like the one in Xiaomi 13 Ultra, but we can still say that it is a bright display. The display has 1500 nits of maximum brightness. It’s 6.55-inches in size and has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display can render 12 bit color and is certified by Dolby Vision and HDR10+. It also has 1920 Hz of PWM dimming. Xiaomi CIVI 3 looks gorgeous with its thin bezels and curved edges.

Design & Performance

Xiaomi CIVI 3 has a very compact design, measuring only 7.56 mm thick and weighing 173.5 grams. The phone looks very stylish and is available in four different color options, the first three color options seen below have a double colored design, while the Coconut Grey color features a monochrome back cover.

All the color options of Xiaomi CIVI 3 feature a unique look with new colors. Here are all the color options of Xiaomi CIVI 3.

CIVI 3 features the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset. This chipset is quite powerful and although it is not a flagship chipset, it is more than enough for daily use. CIVI 3 features 5G connectivity as well.

Xiaomi CIVI 3 offers three different options for RAM and storage. These options include 12GB of RAM paired with either 256GB or 512GB of storage, and one more option with 16GB of RAM and a whopping 1TB storage. It’s worth noting that many high-end smartphones typically are being offered with a base storage of 128GB, but Xiaomi sets a new standard by starting the CIVI 3 with a generous 256GB. Additionally, all variants feature the UFS 3.1 storage chip, while 12GB RAM version utilizes LPDDR5 RAM, the 16GB RAM version utilizes LPDDR5X RAM.

Cameras

We can describe the cameras on the Xiaomi CIVI 3 as ambitious, both for the rear and front setups. The front cameras of the CIVI series are already well-optimized, while the rear main camera sensor of the CIVI 3 is the impressive as well, Sony IMX 800. This sensor was previously featured on Xiaomi 13 whşch is flagship model. In fact, when considering the entire camera package, including the front cameras, the camera system of Xiaomi CIVI 3 actually surpasses that of the flagship Xiaomi 13. It’s worth noting that both the front cameras boast a resolution of 32 MP, and you can shoot 4K videos with front facing cameras.

The primary front camera of Xiaomi CIVI 3 has a focal length of 26mm and a view of 78°. It is equipped with an f/2.0 aperture lens and supports 2X zoomed shots for portrait selfies. Unlike many phones that have fixed focus front cameras, the CIVI 3’s front camera has autofocus, enhancing its versatility.

On the other hand, the CIVI 3 also features a wide-angle front-facing camera with a 100° field of view. This camera has a fixed focus lens with an f/2.4 aperture. Front camera of CIVI 3 can shoot videos at various resolution and frame rates including 4K at 30FPS, 1080p at 30FPS/60FPS, and 720p at 30FPS.

The 78° front camera of the CIVI 3 effectively reduces distortion in selfie photos. Xiaomi has even published a comparison showcasing photos taken with the standard selfie camera and the front camera with a 26mm focal length. The results reveal a more cinematic look. Not just the distortion but it’s very easy to say that CIVI 3 produces way more accurate colors compared to the competiton (standard selfie camera).

CIVI 3’s rear cameras are just exciting as its front cameras. Xiaomi CIVI 3’s primary camera sports a 50 MP Sony IMX 800 sensor and an f/1.77 aperture. The primary camera includes OIS as well. The auxiliary cameras are a 2MP macro camera and an 8MP IMX355 sensor ultra-wide angle camera with a 120° field of view and f/2.2 aperture.

Although the CIVI 3 lacks a telephoto lens, its primary camera sensor, the Sony IMX 800 should produce good results. The rear cameras can only record video at 30 FPS at 4K quality; 4K 60 FPS recording is not possible. Sony IMX 800 on Xiaomi 13 is capable of shooting 4K 60FPS videos but it’s not the case here, it might be because of the MediaTek’s ISP.

Battery

Despite its slim profile, the Xiaomi CIVI 3 comes with a 4500 mAh battery. For a phone with a 6.55″ display, 7.56mm thickness and 173.5g weight, 4500 mAh battery is a really decent value.

4500 mAh capacity is paired with 67W fast charging. According to Xiaomi’s statement, Xiaomi 13 can be fully charged within 38 minutes.
